I’m pleased to announce that our websites have been upgraded over the weekend.
I posted back in August about our plans to move to Magento, then again in November with a progress update. Late on Saturday night, we made the move and switched our live sites from Zen-Cart to Magento. This new system allows us to offer a more fully-featured online shop with many new features. We’ll be blogging and tweeting about them in due course.
We’ve also made some design changes
If you are familiar with our site you may notice that we have tweaked the overall look with a smaller header section, square edges and the removal of the third column. Our search bar has also been made larger and moved to a more prominent position on the header to make it easier for you to find the products you are looking for. We have also implemented a new banner system on the homepage so you will be seeing lots of new banner designs (like the one you clicked to get here!) from Gary over the coming months. All of this was in an effort to provide a more streamlined, fresh and modern look to the site.
Our catalogue page has also undergone a makeover and the default display of these pages is now a grid view as opposed to the previous list view. We believe this will make it more straightforward for you to compare products in the catalogue page and hopefully help make your decision that little bit easier. Don’t worry if you miss the old layout though, because you can switch back to the list view with just a click of a button.
The product page has also had some significant layout changes made to it, with the “Add to Cart” button now being closer to the top of the page, a larger image for you to view the product, and lots of information in tabs further down the page if you need it. There is now also a tab on each product page for reviews, so should you wish to leave feedback on any products you purchased you can now do this without having to log into your account.
We have also adapted the shopping cart page to make things clearer and you now have the option to add your shipping cost to the final price before going to the checkout.
One of the bonuses of moving to Magento was the ability to integrate a new OneStepCheckout system. This means that all details to finalise your purchase are on the same page and we hope this will offer a more streamlined experience when checking out.
We haven’t stopped there though!
Even though the new site is live, we are still working away to bring you lots of new features in the coming months. We will soon have a new dispatch module installed which will give you a clear idea of when your order will be dispatched. There will also be better integration of the site with social networking features such as Facebook and Twitter; this will give you the chance to recommend products to friends through these sites. We will also soon be offering kids clothing through the site; this is something we are particularly excited about.
